Students of Saint Augustine's University (SAU) are off to the races for the new academic year, and so is the new leadership team for the Department of Extended Studies, the University's adult learning program. Dr. Pauline Goza has been appointed to lead the program as Director, while Ms. Betty Holman has been promoted to serve as Assistant Director. Dr. Goza, who taught at Saint Augustine's in 1975 as an English professor, brings over 40 years of experience in higher education, staff development and training, program management and curricula design. Goza also holds a doctorate of education from North Carolina State University in adult development with a concentration in training and development.
Ms. Betty Holman, a Saint Augustine's graduate, brings over 24 years of experience in curriculum assessment, instructional methodology, in-service training, staff development, academic advising and teaching. Ms. Holman obtained an MBA from Strayer University and has been part of the Extended Studies program since 1997.
The mission of the Department of Extended Studies is to offer non-traditional, continuing and alternative academic educational opportunities for adult learners. The program currently offers three majors: Criminal Justice, Organizational Management and Religious Studies. Dr. Goza looks to further strengthen the program by building relationships with external partners to ensure adult learners are equipped to fulfill professional roles needed in the local and global community. She stated, "Our vision for the Extended Studies Program is to be the model Adult Extension Program in higher education by working together with our local and global communities to answer corporate, community and adult learners’ educational needs."
SAU provost, Dr. Yvonne Coston, is looking forward to expansion of the program. She stated, "Together Dr. Goza and Ms. Holman bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise that will help drive continued growth for the Extended Studies Program. Their efforts will support the University's vision of growing the program areas offered."
The Saint Augustine's community welcomes back Dr. Goza and looks forward to serving adult learners on their journey to professional success and personal fulfillment.
