St. Aug First Among Division II Teams at HBCU Challenge
Saint Augustine’s University finished first among Division II men’s and women’s teams at the Robert Shumake HBCU Challenge cross country meet at WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday, October 5, 2013.
The Falcons scored 42 points to place third overall in the men’s 8K run. The Lady Falcons scored 36 points to finish second overall in the women’s 5K race.
For the Falcons, Torion Bailey (Sr./Compton, Calif.) was first among Division II and non-Division I male runners with a time of 26:25.9. Jameel Walcott (Sr./Piarco, Trinidad) was seventh in 28:14.8 and Elhadji Mbow (Soph./Dakar, Senegal) was ninth in 28:35.5 among Division II male runners.
For the Lady Falcons, Fanta Fofana (Jr./Aimes, France) was second in 19:39.2 and Skylar Wallen (Sr./Miami, Fla.) was third in 19:39.8 among Division II female runners. Zikeena Parker (So./Rocky Mount, N.C.) placed seventh in 20:26.5 and Kelly Shaw (Jr./Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) was eighth in 20:35.7 among Division II female runners.
In the men’s race, Division I North Carolina A&T was the overall winner with 20 points and Division I Howard was second with 36 points. In the women’s run, Division I Hampton was first with 27 points and Winston-Salem State was third with 56 points. The Division II teams in both men’s and women’s races consisted of CIAA teams.
The Falcons and Lady Falcons are scheduled to participate at the NCCU Invitational on Saturday, October 12, 2013.
