Falcon Basketball is on a Roll!
Saint Augustine’s University opened its men’s basketball season in electrifying fashion on Monday, November 11, 2013. The Falcons defeated the Hornets of Morris College by 20 points in the head coaching debut of Tony Sheals. The final score was SAU 108 and Morris 88.
“Anytime you start the season off winning the first game, it is a priority because you can’t go undefeated unless you win the first game,” said Sheals, with a laugh. “So having my first victory as a Falcon is a proud moment for me, and we hope we can continue to do the same thing over and over again.”
The Falcons will be in good shape if they continue to rebound the way they did Monday. The rebound total is the most in recent memory for the Falcons but is far off the Division II national record of 111 rebounds by Central Michigan against Alma in 1963. Both St. Aug and Morris (47 rebounds) combined for 123 rebounds which was 18 away from tying the Division II record of 141. It is uncertain if the 76 rebounds by the Falcons set a CIAA record.
The Falcons hit the road for their second game. They visit Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, N.C. for a 5 p.m. non-conference matchup on Saturday, November 16, 2013.
