The Saint Augustine’s University Campus Police Department has gone green with technology.
The Police Department has implemented a few improvements to enhance their daily operations. One improvement includes the integration of a two-part electronic Records Management System, which will provide the Police Department with a computer assisted dispatch system allowing telecommunicators to monitor officer’s activities in real time. Other improvements include:
• An Automated Law Enforcement Information Reporting system which stores and produces all incident reports, parking permit data, and handles parking and appearance tickets. This system assists in compiling crime statistics required by the Clery Act as well as the State of North Carolina;
• Every patrol vehicle has been up-fitted with a mobile computer and portable printer. The mobile computers provide officers with real time, direct access to the information contained within the University’s student registry database as well as information maintained by the State of North Carolina and the Federal Bureau of Investigation; and
• The Police Department is transitioning to an in-car Direct Thermal printing solution for issuance of “In-house” Parking Citations and Appearance Tickets. The printers do not require a ribbon, toner or ink cartridges instead it produces a printed image by selectively heating specially coated thermal paper.
“By going green, the Campus Police Department will pursue practices that could lead to more environmentally friendly and ecologically responsible decisions which can help protect the environment and sustain its natural resources for current and future generations,” said George H. Boykin III, SAU’s Chief of Police.
