Alumnus signs with American Indoor Football league

Alumnus Chaz Robinson signed a professional contract with the York (Pa.) Capitals of the American Indoor Football (AIF) league over the weekend.

“I am very excited that the York Capitals gave me this opportunity,” said Robinson, the 2013 CIAA Co-Defensive Player of the Year. “Many people believe if you don’t make it to the NFL right away then your career is over. I say it is just the beginning.”

Robinson was signed as a linebacker, the position he played at Saint Augustine’s University from 2010 to 2013. York Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator Cedeno Patrick expects Robinson to play multiple positions with the Capitals. York begins mini-camp in January 2015 and training camp in March 2015 before the regular season begins.

“I see a lot of talent in Chaz,” Patrick said. “I plan to [move] him around a lot.”

Robinson finished his four-year career at Saint Augustine’s University as the school’s career tackles leader (407). He amassed 126 total tackles as a senior in 2013 which set a school single-season record. The Hampton, Va., native earned All-CIAA, All-Region and All-America honors during his career at Saint Augustine’s University.

Robinson led the CIAA and ranked sixth nationally in Division II in tackles per game (12.6) in 2013. He also tied for fifth in the nation in solo tackles per game (6.8) the same year. Robinson graduated from Saint Augustine’s University with a sport management degree in May 2014.
